Dreams are thoughts, emotions or images that we experience during sleep. Dreams can be frightening, confusing, unclear, focused or joyful emotions. According to some scholars, dreams are said to have no real purpose whereas others claim that dreams are essential for physical, mental and emotional well-being. This essay gives details about a dream that I experienced, its symbolism and what I learned from the dream. It was on a Saturday night when I experienced this dream. In the dream, I met Barrack Obama in the White House. He asked me what my inspirations were and I told him that I wanted to become Vice-president of the United States. He told me to keep that dream alive as he patted my shoulder. I wanted to ask him a question, but my throat felt so dry, and I was able only to murmur. Everything else that happened after that was so blurred I can’t even recall what happened. I only found myself wide awake on my bed.In this dream, the symbolism or deeper meaning is that I have some inspirations for becoming a prominent person in future. I learned that I am capable of making my dreams valid just like Barrack Obama had told me. This interpretation of my dream brought me to self-awareness. The thought of becoming Vice president of the United States had never crossed my mind. But now that I dreamt of it, I pondered on the idea of becoming Vice president. My reading from choice 1 unit 2 about dreams has helped me understand this dream further by making me aware of the significance of dreams and that dreams have more profound, symbolic meanings. The dream theory that best explains my understanding of my dream is the Psychoanalytic Theory of dreams wish fulfillment by Sigmund Freud. In Freud’s theory, he suggested that dreams are representations of our unconscious thoughts, desires, and motivations. My dream was a representation of my aspirations, visions, and motivations in life.
